JSMM CEO Addresses Biggest Challenge in 10 Year Anniversary Video
By Joe Davis, content marketer at JSMM
What is the toughest challenge of running a business in its first 10 years? For Valerie Jennings, CEO and founder of Jennings Social Media & MarTech, her biggest challenge was refocusing the entire strategy of her company to adapt to the emergence of social media in marketing.
Last month, JSMM celebrated 10 years of business and Jennings filmed a three-part video blog series to pay tribute to the past. The video blog series was produced by Viral Bolt Media (VBM), a sister company to JSMM which provides YouTube video production and social media distribution.
Watch part two of the video blog series:
“Transitioning from typical public relations to social media was probably one of the hardest things we had to do,” said Jennings, who founded JSMM at the age of 24 in June 2003 in Overland Park, Kan. “We had to reorganize all of our SEO capabilities. We had to look at new data and analytics. As you may recall, traditional public relations was usually just based on tracking impressions or circulation or viewership. As we moved into social media, we had real-time data available to us. So we were basically looking at a return on investment model that was turned upside down overnight.”
