JSMM CEO Valerie Jennings Reviews 10 Years of Business: Q&A

As you may know, Jennings Social Media & MarTech (JSMM) turned 10-years-old this month. During the month of June, we have looked back at the last 10 years of business through vlogs and random facts about the company.  As part of this tribute, Valerie Jennings, CEO and founder of JSMM, recently answered a few questions about her experiences throughout the last decade.


1. What have you learned in the last 10 years as a business owner?

Learning and education never stops.  I’ve found myself learning more over the last 10 years than I did during my college years.  However, what I have immersed my education in  today is very different than what I had anticipated back then.  Now, it’s all science, tech, search engine optimization, organic content development and social media marketing strategies.  These are areas that didn’t even exist while I was getting my degree.  Part of being a business leader means constantly developing your skills and education in several key areas from science to finance and marketing to tech.

2. What are the most important emerging trends you’ve seen in social media?

Social media marketing continues to shock most people with the development of new platforms each day.  However, if you have followed the trends like I have since 2005, you would know that these curves are part of the technology infrastructure that our economy is built on, and without them, we would become a stale society.  Today, we will continue to see Google impact the social media community, content marketing drive customer engagement, and most importantly, experience social e-commerce increase sales revenues.  Search engine optimization (SEO) continues to be a big player in social media and content marketing.  We will see what new social networks emerge in the next few years, but all in all, the best has yet to come. Stay tuned!

3. Where do you see social media in 10 years?

It is very possible that in the next decade, social media could be non-existent, and we will have the next generation of content marketing at our fingertips. This is yet to be seen, however, with the technology explosion driving consumer engagement, my money is on something entirely different than what we are utilizing today.

4. What advice do you have for future business owners?  

Stay focused, stay small and nimble in the beginning, don’t get sucked into playing too big and alway keep your head clear of the naysayers!

5. After 10 years of business, what are you most proud of today?

My team is constantly evolving, and I’m proud of the skills they bring to the table whether it be SEO, digital strategies, innovations in WordPress development or PR. I’m proud of the team we have.  All entrepreneurs need to be challenged by the people around them, but they should also be surrounded by talented professionals who can play big, be smart and get the job done right.  I’m also very proud and excited by the many evolutions Jennings Social Media & MarTech has undergone.  As a company, we are standing the test of time.  JSMM is rolling with the new innovations in social media as they come at us, meanwhile maintaining our incredible reputation for being extremely advanced, knowledgeable and experienced in the industry.  Thank you to our clients for making our company a huge success.  Technology and social media are not easy industries to conquer, and we have done just that over the last 10 years in business.  We look forward to another decade of business success!
