Pinterest Acquires Mobile Recommendations Startup Livestar
By Justin McLaughlin, Intern at JSMM
Pinterest, the world’s fastest growing social media platform, recently announced the acquisition of popular startup Livestar. This development continues a period of change for Pinterest following its retooling and release of its layout and new analytics. TechCrunch discussed the takeover in their article “Pinterest Acquires Livestar, The Mobile Recommendations Startup Founded By Fritz Lanman.”
According to TechCrunch, Livestar’s three-person engineering team will join Pinterest while the app’s former services will cease immediately. Formerly utilized in a similar fashion to a search engine, Livestar provided users with expert recommendations and friend reviews for local amenities. Their engineering team was considered a good fit for Pinterest with their experience in social sharing, mobile apps and information discovery. The article does not suggest how Pinterest intends to use the Livestar team or whether any of the app’s features will be integrated to Pinterest.
